It was wonderful to have the opportunity to prepare for the Lunar New Year celebrations in the office! Setting up the festival decorations to start the celebrations for Lunar New Year Eve felt very special.
The Chinese zodiac consists of 12 animal signs, each associated with a year in a repeating a 12-year cycle. Each animal sign is believed to influence the personality and destiny of individuals born in that year. This year is the year of the snake, so it was a fun topic to share, and it was fun to share and discuss with colleagues.
Sharing the tradition of the “Fu” character and explaining its significance was a great way to engage our colleagues and show them the cultural richness of the festival. The detail of pasting the character upside-down to signify that “good fortune has arrived” is fascinating and adds a meaningful touch to the decorations. It was a great idea to involve calligraphy in writing the characters; this is a deeper connection to the tradition.

The red pockets, also known as “Lei See” are a significant tradition during Lunar New Year celebrations.
These red pockets symbolize good luck, prosperity, and blessings for the Lunar New Year. The red colour is particularly important as it symbolizes happiness and good fortune. This is grateful to receive the red pocket on the first day of the Lunar New Year.
The preparations and celebration were heart-warming and made me feel at home. Celebrating cultural diversity and embracing different traditions truly enriches our lives and careers!
