Meet Ruth, Marketing Director at Astutis and your new Champion for the Ageless Community!

I’ve always been passionate about inclusion, diversity, and supporting communities, which is why I’m honoured to be the Ageless Community Champion. In this role, I’m focused on promoting flexible working, supporting older workers, and fostering inclusive practices across Wilmington. My goal is simple: to help create a workplace where everyone—regardless of their age—can thrive.

But my commitment to inclusion doesn’t stop at Wilmington. As a representative of Astutis on the UK Diverse Sustainability initiative, I’m working to drive change within the environmental and sustainability sectors—industries that have traditionally struggled with diversity. Through my work, I’m committed to making these sectors more inclusive, ensuring that diversity is seen as an integral part of the sustainability profession rather than an afterthought.

Beyond my professional responsibilities, I’m also interested about giving back to the community. I volunteer with HOPE, a Welsh organisation that provides independent advocacy services for older people (50+) and their carers. I’m proud to be helping ensure that older people have the support they need, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to give a voice to those who are often marginalised.

My passion for inclusion and community involvement extends into my personal life as well. As an enthusiastic runner and qualified running coach, I support Fityard, a Welsh running group that encourages people of all ages, especially seniors and retirees, to get back into fitness through running. I truly believe that promoting health and wellness at any age is crucial, and I’m proud to help people rediscover the benefits of staying active.

I’ve always believed that multigenerational teams are good for business. They bring a wealth of different viewpoints and insights, and I think we can all agree that they are ageless achievers. Over-50s are a vital part of our multi-generational workforce at Wilmington, contributing a wealth of experience. With an ageing workforce and labour shortages, this demographic is only going to become more important. In fact, by 2025, one in three workers will be 50 or older.

As Older Workers Week (25-29 November) approaches, I’m excited to raise awareness and showcase Wilmington’s commitment to creating a workplace that’s inclusive of older workers. This week is an opportunity to highlight the value of older workers and to continue the conversation about how we can make our workplaces more inclusive for everyone, regardless of age.
