Wilmington acquires accountancy training specialist SWAT Group

Wilmington plc has announced its acquisition of SWAT Group Limited, a provider of online and face-to-face training and compliance support to UK accountancy firms.

SWAT becomes part of Wilmington’s Finance division and the company’s Mercia Group business. The acquisition supports one of the division’s strategic objectives of having information, networking and education offerings across the whole of the UK. It also provides Mercia with a clear opportunity to sell its technical and marketing services to SWAT's clients, as well as providing access to the accountancy student training market. SWAT extends Mercia’s business into South West England, where it is currently under represented, and reinforces its presence in London.

With UK offices in Plymouth and London, SWAT was formed in 1976.  Following the acquisition, Adrian Gibbons, CEO of SWAT Group, and David Norris, Training Director, will remain with the business.

Pedro Ros, Chief Executive Officer of Wilmington, said: "We are delighted to welcome SWAT Group and our new colleagues to Wilmington. The company has a very experienced management team who collectively bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in the accountancy training and technical support sectors.”

Adrian Gibbons, CEO of SWAT Group added: "This is an exciting opportunity for SWAT to work closely with Mercia; as part of Wilmington, SWAT is looking forward to providing the best support for our clients to keep them at the cutting edge of the accounting profession.”
